Tips for a Great Performer Profile
Put your profile online--it's free. Just search for the performer name in the searchbox above, and if its not listed, add it at the bottom.
You want a great profile:
- First, talent buyers search for performers by type, genre, influences, topical subjects, etc. More detailed profiles have a better chance of showing up in the search results.
- Second, you want the talent buyer to want to book you after reviewing the profile. A talent buyer wants to decide quickly from glancing at the profile, and they're not big risk takers--they are often spending someone else's money, and they want a good performance...if the profile doesn't tell them that, they'll quickly move on to the next one.
The profile should have a photo and be written in the third person. Its more professional. Example, "The Commodores are a legendary R&B group that have left audiences with double encore performances." Below are some other tips for a good profile. Be consise, but give a talent buyer enough information to feel comfortable spending money with you for their event.
You can have your profile professionally written by writers with experience in the entertainment field at PowerGig. We also offer critiques of self-written profiles. Contact us in the US at 1 (515) 274-8187 or info@PowerGig.com
Also known as: Make sure you include common spelling errors and abbreviations, etc. Also you can put the band member's names here, so somone searching for "bono" would find "U2".
Focus/Genre: Add as many categories that apply, because these are key terms that talent buyers search. For example, if your music is Pop/Rock, but borders occasionally in other genres, such as blues, country, etc., you should add those other genres. They way you'll show up when people search on the other genres.
Role/Instruments drop-down: You'll want to include all the instruments you play here. You can also describe them in the text box, but people don't search on that. Hold down the control key and put any instruments your performer group plays.
Description: Include a good description that gives the talent buyer a general idea what you're about, what type of performances you do, what audiences really enjoy your performance, etc. You might also say that your performances are enjoyable, crowd-pleasing, etc....things a talent buyer wants to hear.
Influences: Include any performers you've played/toured with, influenced you, or that people have compared you to. Even if you don't think you're like Jerry Seinfeld, if you include it, then people searching for someone similar to Jerry will find you.
Biography: How did you get started? How do you gel as a group? What's the motivation/inspiration behind your performances? What do you do when you're not performing? Any community service?
References: If you have venues, corporations, colleges, or individuals who have heard you before, include them along with city/state. People outside your location won't be familiar with these venues, so you might want to describe the venue in parentheses (night club, amphitheatre, coffeehouse, etc.) You could go so far as to describe the crowds at those references, size, nature, etc. Example: The Cleveland Agora, a mid-size venue in Cleveland, where 600 patrons rocked the house.
Quotes: Get some quotes describing your talent or performances. Even if they're from your mother.
